Nametag Alexander and Black Bethoven have linked up again for Hello Victory and, oh, how sweet it is. Nametag released the metaphor-laden Hello Victory one week ago, adding to his already impressive list of quality EP's. On this one, though, you get to hear a slightly different group of songs than on previous releases.
Hello Victory begins with "5 Minutes 'Til Show", his intro to the EP. "So put your faith in this shooter, like I'm Diego Cruz," Nametag requests of listeners, and he makes a pretty convincing argument. It's a perfect lead-in to the EP.
"Climb" gives us a bit of what Nametag is known for, and that's raw hip-hop. It's rugged. It motivates. It's a song for warriors. After that, we get "Interlude", Nametag's two minute rhyme-fest. This is what he does. It's the equivalent of a master swordsman brandishing his weapon.
"Own Lane", covered here, shows us a little bit of Nametag we don't normally see; he switches up his flow, as if to say "I could do this all day." He probably could. Next up is "The Chapters", the most personal song of the six. The track outlines a few of Nametag's own ups and downs, and is an interesting bit of storytelling from the emcee.
The last track of the EP is entitled "The One". It may be the best of the bunch, in my opinion. It's an enlightened look at days past, as well as a look at things to come. It's the perfect closer because Nametag lets you know that, without a shadow of a doubt, there is much more in store for him musically. Nametag is truly in his zone.
Hello Victory is out now, and can be found here. You can also just scroll down a bit and press play to hear all six tracks. Make sure you also check out Black Bethoven on SoundCloud, too, as well as Nametag's site Lead and be Legendary.
